Are you an organised, enthusiastic individual looking to build a career in events? As Events Assistant at the RTPI, you'll be at the heart of delivering some of the planning profession's most high-profile events — from the Awards for Planning Excellence to the Young Planners' Conference. Connecting with members, sponsors, speakers and suppliers, you'll help bring people together around the issues that matter: housing, sustainability, and the future of our communities.

About the RTPI

We champion planning that creates inclusive, sustainable places where communities thrive. Our 27,000+ members worldwide trust us to support their careers, shape policy, and maintain the highest professional standards. We're the only UK body that awards Chartered status to planners – and we're proud of the difference our members make.

What you'll do

You'll play a key part in the delivery of high-profile events ensuring seamless delivery both online and in-person. Working closely with the national events team, you'll help deliver our strategy through events that inspire, educate and bring people together.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the organisation and delivery of national events
  • Helping deliver online/hybrid events using digital platforms
  • Providing on-the-day support at events across the UK
  • Responding to event enquiries and provide general administrative support

What we're looking for

You are organised, keen, and eager to learn, with a positive attitude and a willingness to take on new challenges. You can manage multiple tasks at once and enjoy working both independently and as part of a supportive team. You communicate effectively, pay close attention to detail, and are confident engaging with people from all backgrounds. An interest in events and a desire to deliver excellent experiences for our members are essential. Previous experience in events or with social media is helpful but not required; we welcome candidates keen to develop their skills and grow with us.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, communicating clearly with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with social media or working in events/membership organisations is desirable

Why you'll love working here

This is a hybrid role with occasional travel around the UK. You'll collaborate closely with the national events team, connect with passionate volunteers, and build relationships across our entire Institute family.

We're committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. Our positive, supportive environment actively helps employees grow professionally, and we're serious about equality, diversity and inclusion.

Ready to help shape the future of planning? We can't wait to meet you.
